Lego® Serious Play®

The experiential path to solving complex problems

Lego® Serious Play® is a methodology that facilitates thinking, communication and complex problem-solving in organisations and teams, creating alignment and dialogue among participants by increasing their awareness of the issues at hand, so that they are better able to deal with activities and decisions within the company.

It is an experiential pathway, specifically designed for each individual workshop, based on the conviction that all participants can be stimulated and actively contribute to the discussion, the decisions made and the results obtained, enabling the imagination that through the use of metaphors teaches how to have discussions in an honest, respectful, effective and efficient manner.

The Lego® Serious Play® methodology therefore brings out what people think and feel about the specific topics that are developed throughout the workshop, thus helping participants to:

  • Understand relationships and connections between those present and their way of thinking
  • Discover, observe and understand internal and external group dynamics
  • Explore possible scenarios, analysing their causes and effects, thereby increasing awareness of possible future strategic, tactical and operational choices
  • Share guidelines for action and behaviour in a clear manner eliminating alibis and ambiguities

“I do not know what I think until I see what I say”

When is LEGO® Serious Play® used?

A workshop is organised when:

  • You want to increase awareness within a team and, at the same time, avoid frustration
  • You want to create conditions for democratic and equal discussion
  • It is important to make a shared decision that is accepted by all participants as their own
  • It is important that participants can express their thoughts without being intimidated or intimidating others
  • It is useful to work on the identity of a team
  • You want to address complex and difficult issues in a constructive atmosphere
  • It is important that everyone participates in company discussions
  • It is important for the working group to find a solution to a problem that they can develop and believe in

Other cases can be: complex decision-making, brainstorming, co-creation of vision and strategies, retrospective reviews, business model canvas, gathering requirements for a project, personnel assessment and more.
